Ladies and Gentlemen Review
Madhura Sreedhar and his team have come
up with a new age romantic film based on social media and cyber crime as
the main themes. The film has been directed by Manjunath and it has hit
the screens today. This is our review of the film.
Story :
Three different stories make up this
film. There is Krishna Murthy (Chaitanya) the college student, Anand
(Kamal Kamaraju) the businessman and Vijay (Mahat), the hacker. All
three of them have their own issues and technology impacts their lives
in a profound way.
Krishna Murthy’s story is based on a
Facebook relationship and all the assorted baggage. Anand is too busy
with work and he does not have time for his wife Priya This gives a lot
of scope for Priya’s ex boyfriend (Adivi Sesh) re-enter her life.
As for the hacker Vijay, he leads a life
of excess and survives on credit cards. He has a lot of
responsibilities as well as a high profile girlfriend and this puts him
under enormous pressure. The film is about what happens to all three of
them in the end.
Plus Points :
-The contemporary theme and concept
will appeal to many of today’s young adults. The director has
effectively showcased some very real problems being faced by young
people in day to day life. This has been shown without taking the sleaze
route.
Adivi Sesh, Mahat Raghavendra, Kamal
Kamaraju and Chaitanya have come up with good performances. Nikitha
Narayan has also done a decent job. The climax of the film is nice and
the director has set it up quite cleverly.
The twist in Chaitanya Krishna’s story is quite unexpected and will leave you shocked.
Minus Points :
The first half of the film is a big
drag and spoils the overall experience. Faster narration would have
helped the film considerably.
Music is a big letdown and the songs
come in at very odd places. Entertainment levels are quite low for a
film that has been positioned as a romantic entertainer. The title of
the film has no justification and can set up wrong expectations in the
minds of viewers.
From a commercial perspective, this is a niche film that will have very limited appeal.
Technical Aspects :
Cinematography is pretty decent. Editing
is a letdown, especially in the first half. However, editing a film
like this is no easy task. Director Manjunath makes a decent debut and
he shows promise with his handling of a few scenes and the way he set up
the climax block is very good.
While the songs are forgettable, Raghu
Kunche’s background music is decent. For Madhura Sreedhar, this film is
going to be a breath of fresh air. This is a far better effort from his
production house, compared to all the other flicks that he has been
churning out.
Verdict :
‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ is a film with a
bold concept but average execution lets it down. The director has done a
good job with the climax and this alone offsets most of the issues the
film has. A better first half would have worked wonders. If you don’t
mind watching a concept based film that does not try to be too
entertaining, you can give this film a chance this weekend.
